CV / Biography

James McComish graduated from the University of Melbourne with first class honours in law, history and art history. He practised as a commercial solicitor at Allens Arthur Robinson in Melbourne and Sydney, and was an associate to the Honourable Justice W M C Gummow of the High Court of Australia.

His doctoral research in history at the University of Oxford focusses on people's experience of the legal system in 16th century England.

His academic interests in law centre on two main themes: the historical understanding of private law (especially equity); and the interaction of private and public law (especially private international law and federal constitutional law).
