Institute of Criminology Ph.D Public Seminars: 'Offender Desistance Policing – Operation Turning Point in West Midlands'

The Institute of Criminology, University of CambridgeSpeaker: Peter Neyroud, Ph.D Student – Institute of Criminology.

This seminar will describe a randomised controlled trial in West Midlands police area which is testing the relative effectiveness of prosecution and court disposals versus a "turning point contract" managed by the police. The trial uniquely involves the randomisation of the decision to prosecute for offenders who have no prior convictions, with the treatment group being diverted under supervision through a "turning point contract", with the threat of prosecution held over them. This seminar will also describe the set up of the experiment, the approach, the ethical and practical challenges and some of the cases dealt with in the first two stages.

This PhD seminar precedes the seminar to be given by Prof. Lawrence Sherman at 5.00pm.

The IoC Public Seminar Series is open to all interested in attending, with no ticket required. If you wish to be added to the seminar mailing list, please contact: Joanne Garner, on: jf225@cam.ac.uk
