Luke Scanlon will speak on the topic of 'Social Media and Defamation Issues: What Role Does the Law Have to Play?'.

Luke Scanlon’s expertise lies in technology law, intellectual property and social media. He particularly focuses on changes in technology and the resulting impact on business, innovation and the wider community. Mr Scanlon is the lawyer for Out-Law.com, a website providing global news from the international law firm, Pinsent Masons, and part of the Guardian Legal Network.

In August 2012, Mr Scanlon wrote an article for the Guardian about the legal risks of using Twitter. As the popularity of social media grows, the law’s role is increasingly being put under the spotlight, evidenced by two recently offended celebrities, Tom Daley and Helen Skelton.
