Day 1 will be held at the Conference Centre in HMP Grendon and day 2 will be held at the Old Divinity School, St John’s College, Cambridge

For the past two years the Institute of Criminology in Cambridge has worked in partnership with HMP Grendon to create learning spaces that aim to be individually, socially and institutionally transformative. Through Learning Together, students in universities and prisons have the opportunity to explore degree level material with and alongside one another within the prison environment. We are currently exploring how Learning Together might develop further within the University of Cambridge to include, for example, a philosophy and theology course at another prison. Learning Together partnerships between prisons and universities are forming across the UK, supported by our Learning Network.

Following on from our first roundtable in November 2015, this conference will provide practical experiences of Learning Together in action and explore the theory underpinning this kind of theory and values led educational initiative. Day 1, in HMP Grendon, will bring together practitioners, policy makers and academics as Learning Together students. The day will be led by Learning Together Graduates who will dialogically explore how universities and prisons might best share and shape learning spaces. Day 2, in St John’s College, Cambridge, will explore the research on which Learning Together is based and reflect on practical experiences and emerging impacts of Learning Together courses taking root across the country.

Please email Ruth or Amy on justis@crim.cam.ac.uk to register for a place.
