Centre for Tax Law Hosts Chinese Tax Officials
Posted on Thursday 11th October 2012.
On Tuesday 25th September the Centre For Tax Law received a delegation of Chinese tax officials concerned with the Chinese rules on tax avoidance. These officials were in part technical experts and in part people in senior posts concerned with the administration of their tax system and its rules.
Professor Tiley conducted a two hour seminar for them on avoidance in the Law School with a view to explaining the current United Kingdom treatment of avoidance and proposals for a general anti-abuse rule (GAAR). The Chinese GAAR to be found in the Corporate Income Tax Law 2008, art 47 and Detailed Implementation Rules 2008 Art 120 Chinese and the 2009 Implementation Measures for Special Tax adjustment (esp articles 92 et seq). Points of similarity and divergence were detected and analysed.
