http://acss.org.uk/Professor Loraine Gelsthorpe Professor in Criminology and Criminal Justice and Director of the Centre for Community, Gender and Social Justice at the Institute of Criminology has been awarded a Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences (ACSS).

Professor Gelsthorpe is a pioneer in the study of women and criminal justice, as well as on community sanctions, probation, youth justice and sentencing. She is current President of the British Society for Criminology.

The Academy conferred the award of Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences on 34 leading social scientists, including Professor Gelsthorpe, and Professor Paul Boyle, now VC of the University of Leicester, Lord Best OBE, President of the LGA, and Rt Hon David Willetts MP, newly announced as Visiting Professor at Kings College London.
