Professor Richard Fentiman receives honorary degreeProfessor Richard Fentiman, Professor of Private International Law, has been awarded an honorary degree by the University of Cyprus. He received the degree of Doctor honoris causa at a ceremony in Nicosia.

The Resolution awarding the degree referred to his role in creating a new paradigm for private international law and his contribution to the subject across the world. He was described as "a model of an academic and teacher, whose contribution to legal scholarship transcends the subject he serves and the legal tradition he represents".

Having received the degree Professor Fentiman gave an address on the theme of 'Principle and Pragmatism in Private International Law', in which he reflected on how a pragmatic approach to international litigation can also be principled.

Commenting on his degree Professor Fentiman said: "It is a great privilege to receive this prestigious honour, which reflects the place of Cambridge in the study of Private International Law and recognises that, whether in Cambridge or Cyprus, we share in a truly international tradition in legal scholarship."
