Teaching in Easter Term

All Law Tripos and LLM students were recently contacted by the Directors of the Law Tripos and the LLM concerning teaching arrangements for Easter Term, with information about what to expect regarding online teaching and technical advice about accessing online teaching. The information for LLM students also applies to MCL students in respect of the LLM papers that they are taking.

Revised classing conventions

As noted in our FAQs for Part II, LLM and MCL students, there will be changes to classing arrangements this year, due to the adoption by the University of a safety net for final-year undergraduate students (which is now reflected in amended Part II classing conventions) and the Faculty’s decision to amend the classing conventions for the LLM and MCL examinations. Revised classing conventions have now been published and can be accessed via the following links:

LLM students should note that the revised classing conventions clarify the relationship between modified convention 1C and the convention whereby a candidate’s lowest mark will in some circumstances be treated for classing purposes as though it were in a class one class higher than that in which it actually is. The LLM FAQs have also been clarified in this regard.

Rubric

The FAQs for Part IA and Part IB explain that in those examinations students will be required to attempt fewer questions than normal. In the light of this, a revised Form and Conduct Notice for the Law Tripos will be published in due course. In the meantime, we have published a list of Part IA and Part IB papers in which additional rubric amendments are being made. To the extent of any differences, the information set out in that list supersedes the current Form and Conduct Notice for the Law Tripos as it applies to Parts IA and IB. For the avoidance of doubt, none of the rubric changes set out in the list have any bearing upon Part II students where papers are shared between Part II and Part IA or IB. Part II students are required to answer the usual number of questions and remain subject to the rubric requirements set out in the relevant Form and Conduct Notice.

Part II and LLM coursework deadlines

Coursework deadlines have been changed to 4 May for Part II and 8 May for the LLM. The latter deadline also applies to MCL students who are submitting coursework in respect of one of their LLM papers. The deadline for the MCL Deals paper is now 15 May. The Faculty has now established a Mitigation Committee which will consider applications for extensions beyond those revised deadlines. Students who wish to apply to the Mitigation Committee should refer to the following documents:

Any Part II student who wishes to seek an extension must make an application to the Faculty’s Mitigation Committee by 24 April. Any LLM student who wishes to seek an extension must apply by 30 April. The latter deadline also applies to MCL students in relation both to the Deals course and any LLM coursework that they might be submitting.

Faculty materials

Where the relevant Form and Conduct Notice for a paper indicates that candidates may make use of Faculty Materials, such Materials will be published and made available via the relevant Moodle course page prior to the beginning of the assessment period.

Recording guidance

Our current students can expect to experience one or more forms of online teaching during Easter Term 2020. The Faculty has developed a Recording Policy to define the parameters within which recordings may be made of online workshops and seminars whilst face-to-face teaching cannot occur in Cambridge.  The following guidance is available for students:
