Reconceptualising Parenthood: Philosophical Foundations and Emerging Realities of Parent-Child Relations
Summary
Medical advances coupled with an increasingly inclusive notion of ‘family’ have radically reshaped our understanding of families and parenthood. Relevant questions have been debated widely, yet scholarly approaches so far lack an overarching theoretical account of the legal notion of parenthood. Crucially, this leads to fragmented regulatory approaches even within the same jurisdiction. The proposed thesis aims to cover this gap by examining the philosophical foundations of parenthood and offering a comprehensive and cohesive theoretical roadmap that will allow more effective regulation of emerging social realities.
