Fields of research

Vincent is a Lecturer of Law (Singapore Management University), Doctoral Student in Tax Law (Downing College, Cambridge) and practicing Tax Lawyer. His research interests lie generally in 1) Taxation (Tax and Private Law, Tax and Regulation, and Digital Economy Taxation); 2) Private Client Law; and 3) Equity & Trusts. Vincent is currently co-chair of the Organising Committee of the 2020 SMU David R. Tillinghast Global Digital Taxation Conference (http://tinyurl.com/smudavidt).

Vincent has published in leading journals such as the Law Quarterly Review, Oxford University Commonwealth Law Journal, King’s Law Journal, Asia Pacific Law Review and Tax Notes International. His current and forthcoming books include: 1) Singapore Trusts Law (2020); and 2) Halsbury's Laws of Singapore (Income Tax and Other Taxes) (2020 and 2018 respectively). Vincent has also written for the Singapore Academy of Law (Singapore Income Taxation), Lexis Practical Guidance: Singapore Tax; and Woon’s Corporations Law (2018 and 2020). He has presented his work at various conferences in Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, the United Kingdom, Malaysia and Italy.

Vincent graduated from Trinity College, Oxford with double first class honours, where he was the top law student in Trinity College, Mowat Scholar and Editor-in-Chief of the Oxford University Undergraduate Law Journal. Vincent has been awarded several prizes and grants, including the Best Tax Research Paper Prize at the 31st Australasian Tax Teachers’ Association Conference and the SMU Overseas PhD Scholarship. He is a Regional Contributor (Tax) for the World Bank’s Doing Business Report. Vincent has previously held research positions at the EW Barker Centre for Law & Business, NUS and the Centre for Cross-Border Commercial Law in Asia, SMU. He is presently Tax Research Lead at the Centre for AI and Data Governance, SMU.
