Brenda HaleThe Girton 150 Anniversary Lectures

Lady Hale is a pioneer among women in Law. To name a few of her remarkable achievements: she was the first woman to be appointed to the Law Commission, a statutory body which promotes the reform of the law; in 1994 she became a High Court judge, the first to have made her career as an academic and public servant rather than a practising barrister; she was the United Kingdom’s first woman Lord of Appeal in Ordinary. In October 2009 Lady Hale became the first woman Justice of The Supreme Court, and in 2017 its first woman President. An alumna of Girton College she maintains her links with the academic world as our Visitor and as Visiting Professor of Kings College London.

5.45pm for 6.00pm Reception at 7.00pm Stanley Library, Girton College.
