Rights are objects intentionally created for a certain purpose. That is, they are artificial entities of a certain kind. Based on this characterisation, I argue that their artificial nature is constituted by both a certain concept of rights (associated with a certain type-description) and a certain form of collective recognition (viz., a social or an institutional practice of recognition). To elucidate these elements, I conclude, we need conceptual analysis and socio-ontological investigation.
