Online webinar

Hosted by the Cambridge University International Law Society.

Quite some dust was kicked up with the finalisation of negotiations for the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) on 24 December 2020. Despite having provisionally taken effect more than a month ago, much remains unclear about the operation of the TCA and its implications for the future. What will its lasting effects be on (financial) services, data protection, fundamental rights and the recognition of qualifications (including for the legal profession)? Andrew Hood will be shedding light on some of the most pressing uncertainties surrounding the operation and future of the TCA during this talk.

Andrew Hood is a partner in the trade and regulatory practice of Fieldfisher LLP, a European law firm, and leads the firm's Brexit Taskforce. He has almost 20 years' experience as an EU, trade, regulatory and public international lawyer working in both the public and private sectors. Andrew spent over 13 years as a lawyer and negotiator for the UK Government, including as a lawyer at the Foreign Office and as Head of International and EU Law at the Attorney General’s Office. Prior to leaving the Government, Andrew was the General Counsel in 10 Downing Street, advising the UK Prime Minister (David Cameron) on the developments and application of a broad range of domestic, EU and international policies.

Andrew has also spent 3 years in Brussels as a lawyer and senior negotiator for the UK’s representation to the EU, negotiating the first EU sanctions against Iran and advising on the development of key internal market and financial services legislation. Andrew also led the Government-wide two-year review of the EU and its impact on the UK, providing an insight into the effect of the EU across key sectors of the UK economy.

Andrew has advised UK and international clients preparing for Brexit across a wide range of sectors and has provided expert evidence on the impact of Brexit on international trade to the UK Parliamentary Committee on International Trade.
