Online webinar

As a follow from last week’s event with the Honourable Marilyn Warren AC QC, the Cambridge University Graduate Law Society and Cambridge University Women Lawyers’ Society are pleased to invite you to a conversation with Fiona Steffensen, Judicial Registrar of the Commercial Court of the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Judicial Registrar Steffenson was appointed Judicial Registrar in December 2020. She was previously a principal of Lipman Karas, a boutique litigation firm where she practiced in Hong Kong and South Australia. Her practice focused on large cross-border commercial and insolvency disputes. She led multi-jurisdictional investigations of large corporate collapses, identifying fraud, failures in corporate governance and breaches of duties owed by directors, auditors, valuers, solicitors and banks, which became the subject of litigation seeking significant damages. She acted for external administrators and creditors throughout Australia and in Hong Kong in relation to all aspects of insolvency, from winding up, to using examination powers, and bringing recovery proceedings.

As Judicial Registrar of the Commercial Court of the Supreme Court of Victoria, Fiona exercises judicial powers in respect of case management and interlocutory disputes, with a particular focus upon corporate insolvency and class actions. She is also responsible for the Commercial Court Registry and providing operational and listing support to the Court’s judges.

Judicial Registrar Steffensen will speak about the background to the Commercial Court and her role of Judicial Registrar, as well as the Court’s digital litigation strategy and how that enabled the Court to pivot quickly during covid lockdowns.

We encourage you to attend if you have an interest in international commercial litigation, or if you would like an insider’s view into the day to day operations of managing a court.

you can register online for the event.
