The Governing Body of Downing College, Cambridge, invites applications for appointment to a College Teaching Associateship in Law, starting on 1st October 2017 for one year in the first instance, with the possibility of renewal subject to the College’s needs, and receipt of satisfactory reports.

Applications are invited from either doctoral students, who are nearing the end of their doctoral research at the time of application for the post, or postdoctoral researchers. A successful candidate will be elected as a Bye-Fellow of the College if they do not already hold a Fellowship or Bye-Fellowship at another College.

Successful candidates will be expected to undertake a number of duties, relating to the teaching and administration of Law at Downing, which, depending on need and following discussion with the successful applicant, may include:

  • Providing up to 40 hours of supervision of Law students (whether these are Downing students, or students at other colleges, with the teaching being done on an ‘exchange’ basis) over the course of the academic year, for which payment will be made at the intercollegiate rate for supervisions;
  • acting as a Director of Studies (the duties of which include assisting at College Open Days), for which payment will be made at the current College rate for Direction of Studies; assisting with the undergraduate Law admissions process; and
  • participating, more generally, in the culture of Law at Downing (eg by assisting with College mooting competitions, and attending Cranworth Law Society events)

Access to parking in the College when on College business will be provided, and generous lunching and dining privileges.

Applications must be submitted online by Monday 24 July 2017 via the Fellowship Application System website.

Candidates must submit a CV (and, if appropriate, a statement of tenure of their current position or any other position that they have undertaken to perform during the 2017-18 academical year) as part of their online application. The names of two referees, who will be contacted automatically to provide references by Monday 31 July 2017, will also be required. If you have any questions about the application process please email: supervisions@dow.cam.ac.uk.

The appointment will be conditional upon the candidate providing satisfactory evidence of eligibility to work in the UK in the capacity offered, together with proof of entry clearance/leave to remain for the duration of the tenure.
