University Lecturer in Private Law (Newnham College)

The Faculty of Law and Newnham College at the University of Cambridge are seeking to appoint an appropriately qualified individual to a joint University Lectureship in Private Law from 1 October 2019. The person appointed will teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level, conduct and supervise research, and participate in the general work of the Faculty. The Faculty particularly welcomes applicants with an interest in contributing to its undergraduate course in Equity, and course offerings in related fields. The Faculty would also welcome applicants who specialise in the fields of tort or contract law. The successful candidate will also be expected to undertake College duties, normally equivalent to six hours of supervisions a week to include Direction of Studies.

The appointee will be an outstanding scholar and teacher in private law, and will demonstrate potential to carry out and publish research of the highest calibre. The person appointed to the post will normally hold a PhD or equivalent qualification.

The Lecturer will be based in central Cambridge. Appointment will be permanent, subject to a probationary period of five years.

In exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to offer a supplement to the salary range stated for this role of up to 20%. Any such supplement would be awarded on the basis of a demonstrable history of outstanding achievement and an expected future level of contribution and is entirely at the discretion of the University.
