Exploring Law Conference

About the programme

Founded 50 years ago, the Exploring Law Conference was formerly known as the Cambridge Sixth Form Law Conference.

The Conference is a four-day residential programme supporting students in Year 12 England/Wales, Y13 Northern Ireland or S5 Scotland who are interested in studying Law at university, by providing a balanced view of Law as an academic subject as well as a profession and offering an insight into life as a Cambridge undergraduate student.

It is co-run by the Faculty of Law and a committee of seven undergraduate Law students.

The conference is made possible through the generous support of our Access and Widening Participation Partners.

What is involved?

The conference involves a packed daytime timetable of academic sessions at the Faculty of Law on the University's Sidgwick Site.The academic programme includes sample lectures, workshops with law firms and barrister chambers, an admissions talk and opportunities to for Q&A with current staff and students.

Evening social and law-exploration activities take place at St John's College.

Attendees are required to stay overnight in undergraduate student accommodation and have meals in the same spaces as the University's own students. Three nights' accommodation in a Cambridge College is provided for all participants in addition to meals from dinner on Monday evening until Thursday breakfast.

Attendees must make their own travel arrangements to and from the Conference.

How much does it cost?

There are 250 places in the Conference, of which:

100 are self-funded at a cost of £240. This fee is part-subsidised to keep the cost of self-funded places as low as possible.

150 are free

There is no additional charge for accommodation and meals.

Travel costs are not covered by the Conference but we have a small number of travel bursaries available, which free-place applicants can apply for.
