Calling all prospective and current University students interested in learning about Law at Cambridge and the exciting and impactful career paths available to Law graduates! The Cambridge Faculty of Law is holding its second edition of the Exploring Legal Futures webinar series.
This series will include sessions on:
- Preparing competitive university applications to Law, including the personal statement and the interview
- The different types of legal careers, including advice from law firms and chambers on what qualities and experience they are looking for
- Non-legal career pathways for Law graduates
The webinars will be structured either as presentations or as discussion-based panels, and will all include time for Q & A at the end with questions submitted by attendees. The series will feature legal professionals, Cambridge lecturers, current undergraduate students and alumni.
Open to all, including current university students looking to explore pathways in and around the legal sector.

3 February 2025: Applying to Cambridge Law and student life at Cambridge
We will discuss the structure of the undergraduate Law course at Cambridge and the different steps of the university application process for Law, providing advice and guidance for each one. The webinar will finish with a Q and A featuring current Cambridge students.
10 February 2025: Applying to Cambridge Law as a mature student
We will be joined by Admissions staff from Cambridge’s Mature Colleges, in a discussion about how to apply to Cambridge as a mature student.
11 February 2025: The Law personal statement
We will discuss personal statements for Law: what they are, how to make them effective using super-curricular evidence, and the suggested timelines for planning and writing if you are applying to Cambridge or Oxford.
17 February 2025: The Cambridge Law interview
We will discuss Cambridge Law interviews, including how they are structured, what their purpose is, and how students can prepare. We will be joined by a Cambridge Director of Studies in Law, who will share their experiences conducting interviews and explain what qualities they are looking for in applicants.
24 February 2025: Should I be a solicitor or a barrister? How to decide on the right pathway for your career in law
This will be a panel discussion made up of Cambridge alumni who are now practising either as solicitors or barristers. They will outline the differences between these two careers, explain the academic/professional requirements, and help you to decide which one is right for you.
3 March 2025: Internships, vacation schemes, and training contracts: what firms are looking for
This session will be led by alumni now working at solicitors’ firms who will share their experiences, both from the side of applicant and assessor, during interviews for internships, vacation schemes and training contracts. They will give top tips on how to stand out in a very competitive application pool.
10 March 2025: Exploring legal career pathways for non-Law graduates
This session will be led by Cambridge alumni who did not study Law but are working in the legal field. It will demonstrate how non-Law degrees can be applied to a career in law and what the process is like. The speakers will reflect on their personal experiences of why they decided to go into law, as well as how they experienced converting and now working in the field.
17 March 2025: Non-legal career pathways for Law graduates
This will be a panel discussion with alumni speakers, each having studied Law at Cambridge and gone on to do non-law and unconventional careers. The session will demonstrate the transferrable skills of a Law degree.
