Deeds in English contract law

Summary

Despite widespread use in practice, deeds have received scant attention in contemporary literature on English private law.  In particular, it remains unclear whether deeds constitute contracts.  Through a close doctrinal analysis, focussing on matters of interest in corporate and commercial law, the thesis seeks to clarify our understanding of promises contained in deeds and their relationship with the law of contract.
