Stanley Gold is an alumnus of Fitzwilliam College and President and Chief Executive Officer of Shamrock Holdings, Inc., a privately owned Burbank, California-based investment company. He will be discussing ‘business, education and democracy in the age of Trump’ with David Runciman, Professor of Politics and Head of the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge.

David Runciman is Professor of Politics and Head of the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge. His research interests include late-nineteenth and twentieth century political thought; theories of the state and of political representation; and various aspects of contemporary political philosophy and contemporary politics. His books include The Politics of Good Intentions and Political Hypocrisy (both Princeton). He writes regularly about politics for the London Review of Books and other newspapers and he presents the podcast Talking Politics.

Stanley Gold (Fitzwilliam, 1967) is President and Chief Executive Officer of Shamrock Holdings, Inc., a privately owned Burbank, California-based investment company. Shamrock Holdings, Inc. is a diversified investment company wholly owned by the Roy E. Disney Family, which directly, or through Shamrock Capital Advisors, Inc., its affiliated merchant bank, owns or controls numerous operating companies. Prior to joining the Shamrock companies, Mr. Gold was a managing partner of Gang, Tyre, Ramer & Brown, Inc., a prominent Los Angeles law firm he joined in 1968. For a number of years, he specialized in corporate acquisitions, sales and financing. During his business career he served as President of Shamrock Broadcasting, Inc., President and then Chairman of Central Soya Company, Inc., Chairman of Enterra Corporation (NYSE/EN) and Chairman of Koor Industries Ltd. (NYSE/KOR), Chairman of Tadiran Communications, director of The Walt Disney Company (NYSE/DIS), and Ansell, Ltd (ANN/ASX). Mr. Gold's professional and civic affiliations include memberships on the Board of Governors of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (Chairman of the Board of Governors from 1991 to 1996); the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Southern California; the USC Law Center Board of Councilors; and the USC Keck School of Medicine Board of Overseers.

The event is free of charge, will start promptly at 5.30pm, and will be followed by a drinks reception for those who book in advance.
