Wednesday, 23 November 2022 - 6.00pm
Location:
Darwin College, The Bradfield Room

The inaugural Erasmus Seminar will take place on Wednesday 23 November at 18.00 in Darwin College and we are delighted to welcome Professor Catherine Barnard to give her talk on : 'What happens when enforcement doesn’t happen: Brexit, free movement and … Great Yarmouth'.

Professor Barnard is Professor of EU Law and Employment Law in the University of Cambridge, and a Fellow of Trinity College.

She writes that she will “look at the experiences of EU migrant workers in Great Yarmouth, a declining seaside resort with the fifth highest leave vote in the UK. Our research has looked at the experiences of those living and working in Great Yarmouth. It tells the story of significant under-enforcement of employment rights in a legal aid desert. The question then is what do the workers do to get help, is it effective and are there lessons for labour enforcement more generally?”

Since numbers will be restricted to the capacity of the Bradfield Room, registration is required.

The speaker will give a 40-minute talk, following which there will be a Q/A session hosted by Dr Nigel Bowles, Senior Member of Darwin College.
