Monday, 13 February 2023 - 1.00pm
Location:
Faculty of Law, B16

This moot is about issues about the leasing of aircraft arising under the Cape Town Convention. It will take place in Cambridge on 26 September 2023 and will involve both oral advocacy and the submission of written arguments. The moot teams can be of any size, with three members acting as oralists at the oral hearing. It is intended that one team should come from Cambridge and the other from another UK university (probably Oxford).

Taking part in the moot is an opportunity to learn about this area of the law, which forms an important part of the financing work of most major law firms, in the UK and globally. It will be a high profile event, judged by a High Court Judge and attended by leading academics and lawyers from around the world. Participants will have the benefit of training in the law from Norton Rose Fulbright, and mentoring from either Watson Farley Williams or Allen & Overy.

Participants will be invited to a reception and dinner after the moot, which gives further networking opportunities with attendees from law firms and chambers. Reasonable travel expenses of participants will be covered, as well as accommodation expenses. Participants, if they wish, will be able to attend the 12th Cape Town Convention Academic Conference, which is taking place in Cambridge on 27 and 28 September 2023.

There will be a brief information session about the moot in B16 at the Law Faculty on Monday 13 February at 1pm given by Professor Louise Gullifer (Cambridge), Professor Ignacio Tirado (UNIDROIT) and Kenneth Gray (Norton Rose Fulbright) (refreshments provided afterwards). The session will be recorded and will be available on the 3CL website afterwards. There will then be a call for applications to participate in the moot.

There is more information about the moot and the Cape Town Convention on the CTC site.
