Friday, 24 November 2017 - 5.00pm
Location:
Faculty of Law, LG19 (The Arthur Goodhart Lecture Theatre)

This event will be a moderated conversation that works to place the ongoing situation in Catalonia within relevant historical, political, social, linguistic and legal contexts. In so doing, it will illuminate the diversity within Catalan and Spanish societies, particularly as it relates to language, class, and indeed public opinion regarding Catalan independence. The panellists will also consider the political, economic, social and legal ramifications of an independent Catalonia. Comparisons and contrasts with similar cases around the world will be drawn, and questions of political asylum, extradition and EU and international law will be addressed.

The event features five Cambridge professors: Prof David Feldman (Law), Dr Jeff Miley (Sociology), Prof Montserrat Guibernau (Sociology) as panellists; Prof Dominic Keown (Dept. of Spanish and Portuguese) as chair, Prof Brad Epps (Dept. of Spanish and Portuguese) as discussant.

Event organized by the Cambridge University Catalan Society (CUCat) with the support of the Institut Ramon Llull (Catalan Language and Culture).
