Hogan Lovells host third 'Cambridge in London' seminar

The third Cambridge in London seminar took place on Monday 4 July 2016, kindly hosted by Hogan Lovells at their offices. This event was an opportunity for some of the Faculty's alumni and friends to meet current staff and hear presentations about the Faculty's ongoing work.

After an introduction by Mr David Moss, Partner and Training Principal at Hogan Lovells, Chair of the Faculty Board Professor Richard Fentiman outlined some of the Faculty's recent achievements. He focused especially on the Faculty's continued standing as a global law school with a world-leading reputation, and highlighted the Faculty's commitment to excellence in both teaching and research.  Professor Fentiman drew attention to his recent statement following the outcome of the UK referendum on membership of the EU, and reiterated the Faculty's commitment to an inclusive and global perspective.

Professor Kenneth Armstrong discussed the activities of the Centre for European Legal Studies (CELS) in the run-up to the referendum, including the extremely popular 'EU Referendum questions' series.  Reflecting on the outcome of the vote, Professor Armstrong detailed some of the important legal and constitutional questions which must be addressed.

Faculty Access Officer Dr Claire Fenton-Glynn described a range of initiatives which have been launched by the Faculty to increase applications to the Faculty, especially from under-represented constituencies of student.  Dr Fenton-Glynn detailed the three-pronged approach of the Faculty to explain the benefits of the academic study of Law, to promote the unique qualities of a Cambridge education, and equipping students and teachers with the tools necessary to make successful applications.

Finally, Dr Jeffrey Skopek gave a presentation introducing the new Centre for Law, Medicine and Life Sciences (LML), and discussed some of the cutting-edge being undertaken by members of the Centre, with a specific focus on a range of issues relating to personalised medical treatment.
