Third Lauterpacht Centre Conference on International Dispute Settlement - Remedies in International Disputes
Time: 09:15 hrs - 17:45 hrs
International courts and tribunals have been the focus of much world attention in recent times as a means of addressing some of the world’s most pressing problems through the processes of adjudication. But international litigation is much more than the airing of grievances in a judicial setting: its value depends upon the provision of appropriate and effective remedies. In the practice of international courts, there is much evidence of innovation in remedies: from the development of provisional measures in the Gaza Strip proceedings in the ICJ; to a renewed focus on the approach to compensation in a series of recent cases before the Court; to controversies about determination of compensation in investment arbitration; to reparations for ecological and climate harms and for victims in armed conflict. However important they are in practice, the topic of remedies has until recently been comparatively neglected in legal scholarship. This is changing as the ILC plans to revisit the topic of compensation in its next programme of work.
The Third Lauterpacht Centre Conference on International Dispute Settlement will bring together leading scholars and practitioners of international law to debate the issues.
Conference attendance is free of charge but subject to prior registration at the following link: https://forms.gle/hhmBQUJUqDpebZnD9
