CV / Biography
Soterios Loizou joined the Faculty of Law in 2024. His teaching and research at Cambridge focus on Commercial Law, Conflict-of-Laws, and International Arbitration.
Over the course of his career in academia, Soterios has been repeatedly nominated and shortlisted as a finalist for Teaching Excellence and Education Awards. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), reflecting his sustained commitment to professionalism in teaching and learning in higher education, and has also been awarded the Richard M. Buxbaum Prize for Teaching in Comparative Law by the American Society of Comparative Law (2025), recognising excellence in course design, student mentorship, and leadership in advancing comparative law scholarship and pedagogy. Soterios has further served as TTLF Fellow at Stanford Law School, Hauser Post-Doctoral Fellow at the NYU School of Law, and has held visiting faculty positions with leading legal institutions in Europe, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas.
For his research, Soterios has been awarded numerous awards and prizes, including the prestigious Colin B. Picker Prize at the American Society of Comparative Law (ASCL) Young Comparativists Committee (YCC) Fifth Annual Global Conference (2016), the first prize at the international competition organized in conjunction with the MU Center for the Study of Dispute Resolution-American Society of International Law (ASIL), Dispute Resolution Group works-in-progress conference (2017), the Trandafir International Business Writing Competition (2017), the Smit-Lowenfeld Prize by the International Arbitration Club of New York (IACNY) (2020), and the Second Prize at the UNIDROIT Covid-19 Essay Competition (2021).
