Education CV
Léa Weimann is a PhD researcher in the Faculty of Law at the University of Cambridge, specialising in international environmental and climate change law. Her research examines the evolution of the environmental rule of law and the rise of eco-centric legal frameworks, including the rights of nature and ecocide law. She is a member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law and the founder of ‘Legal Wednesday’, a weekly newsletter offering insights into emerging developments in international environmental and climate law.
At Cambridge, Léa served as Executive Director of the Cambridge Pro Bono Project for the 2024–25 academic year, coordinating and contributing to high-impact legal research initiatives. Alongside her doctoral research, she teaches and supervises workshops and lectures across the University on topics such as environmental law, rights of nature, ecocide law, climate law, and water governance.
Léa has represented youth voices and legal perspectives for environmental action at major international fora, including Stockholm+50, COP27, COP28, the UNFCCC SB58 Conference and the 2025 UN Ocean Conference. She also brings over five years of experience in climate communication, having hosted and produced environmental radio shows and podcasts. In addition, she is a published researcher on sustainable governance in healthcare and has co-authored a book and several academic articles on the topic.
Léa's research and professional engagement are guided by a commitment to improving legal responses to the climate and biodiversity crises, and to strengthening the role of law in achieving environmental justice.
