CV / Biography

Samuel Ruiz-Tagle is a Research By-Fellow at Hughes Hall, and Senior Researcher in Law at the Centre for Climate Engagement, University of Cambridge. Previously, Dr Ruiz-Tagle was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Administrative Law and Governance also at Hughes Hall. Dr Ruiz-Tagle's work examines the legal and theoretical foundations of English planning law, with a view to explaining the social and political significance of law in land transformation. More broadly, he is interested in the interrelationship between the courts and public administration, with a focus on how the judiciary, through the development of legal doctrine, can promote intelligence in public decision-making.

He advised domestic and international companies in the development of nationally significant infrastructure projects, and regularly appeared before administrative bodies, courts, and tribunals. In addition, he served as a legal advisor to the Ministry General Secretariat of the Presidency and acted as a consultant to government bodies in the drafting of planning laws and regulations.

Samuel completed his doctorate at the Faculty of Law of the University of Oxford. He also has a Master of Laws from Stanford University, a Graduate Diploma in Urban Planning from the Institute of Urban Studies UC, and a Bachelor of Laws with Social Sciences from the University of Chile.
