Friday, 17 March 2017 - 7.30pm
Location:
New Museums Site, Babbage Lecture Theatre

A panel of experts will explore the fascinating and knotty issues around medical use of patient material (e.g., tissue, cells or antibodies) and patient data. We are delighted to have speakers from a range of disciplines to speak on the moral, economic, familial, legal, medical and ethical questions. Questions surrounding gene-based therapies are highly germane not only to our work but also to many who live in Cambridge with its high tech economy.

Cambridge Enterprise is the commercialisation arm of the University of Cambridge. Our role is to maximize the impact upon society of the University's research output. We achieve this by licensing commercial rights to partners, creating new businesses or disseminating academic know-how through consultancy.

In 2017, we mark our 10th anniversary and "Who Owns Us?" is part of our celebratory events programme, helping us to engage with the wider university and city communities in considering some of the fascinating topics that arise from our work.

Panel members include:

  • George Freeman, MP—former Under-Secretary of State for Life Sciences; currently Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Policy Board
  • Dr Ruth March—AstraZeneca
  • Dr Iain Thomas—Head of the Cambridge Enterprise Life Sciences Team
  • Dr Gareth Williams, Marks & Clark—Patent lawyer specialising in biotechnology-related patent work, with particular expertise in genomics and peptides

Chaired by Dr Kathy Liddell.
