Tuesday, 2 May 2017 - 6.00pm
Location:
Wolfson College, Gatsby Room, Chancellor's Centre

Speaker: Professor Tanya Aplin, The Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London

Tabloid journalism in the United Kingdom has generated much controversy when it comes to privacy protection. One need only point to the Leveson Inquiry to illustrate the propensity of UK tabloids to intrude upon the privacy of public figures and celebrities, along with ordinary individuals thrown into the public eye through tragedy, and the collective outrage this has caused. In the wake of the Leveson Report we have seen a fuss about press regulation and an unsatisfactory implementation of the Leveson recommendations. This talk will reflect on the journey that privacy protection has taken in the United Kingdom over the past fifteen years since the House of Lords decision in Campbell v MGN and last year's Supreme Court decision in PJS v NGN.

Refreshments from 5.45pm. Talk begins at 6.00pm. All welcome
