Fitzwilliam College

The East of England’s leading family charity, Ormiston Families, is holding its annual lecture at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge. The lecture will be delivered by Professor Nicola Padfield on 'What's going on in the parole (and prison) system?'.

Professor Padfield is Master of Fitzwilliam and Professor of Criminal and Penal Justice at the University of Cambridge. Her recent research has explored how prison works in practice, the law on release and how this is perceived by offenders. In the lecture, Professor Padfield will discuss this research in the wider context of the current turbulence in both prisons and probation services, arguing the case for a somewhat different and more 'joined up' system.

Gavin Lamb, Fundraising Manager for Ormiston families, said: "Our annual lecture will look at how ex-offenders can be best supported in their attempts to leave crime behind. This aligns well with our charity’s work in prisons, based on the premise that ex-offenders who maintain ties with their family are less likely to re-offend and end back in prison.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming along anybody interested in this topic and at a fantastic venue, with all ticket proceeds going to Ormiston Families.”

The lecture will be followed by drinks and canapés, kindly sponsored by Strutt and Parker.

Tickets cost £25 per person and can be booked at www.ormistonfamilies.org.uk/events.
