Title: "History, Institutions and Ideas of Rule of Law in Hungary"

Abstract: New authoritarianism of post-communist Hungary (and other East-Central European states) shocked the European audience, even the sceptic professionals. With the help of concepts of historical institutionalism we could formulate some hypotheses on the causes of dismantling rule of law. However ideas also matter, vocabulary and metaphors of law hide possible explanations too. The field demonstrating the complexity of the sources of authoritarianism is judiciary as the cornerstone of the modern constitutionalism. The history of the Hungarian judicial system highlights the fate of rule of law.
