Thursday, 23 October 2025 - 4.00pm
Location:
Faculty of Law, LG19 (The Arthur Goodhart Lecture Theatre)

It is a great pleasure inviting you to the first session of our new series on ‘AI and the Future of the Legal Profession’. We have invited a stellar cast of speakers, and the sessions will be a great forum to discuss your thoughts and questions with them.

We are starting on Thursday, 23 October, 4pm to 5:30pm, in LG19 with a session on ‘Foundations of Legal AI’. We will first discuss the technical foundations of machine learning and natural language processing as the basis of legal AI. We then focus on legal AI tools as well as their strengths and weaknesses in legal practice and legal studies. The session will end with a discussion on how these tools affect the legal profession and legal studies and how we can understand whether the changes that are coming are good or bad.

The speakers for this session are:

  • Ludwig Bull: founder of CourtCorrect AI, former Cambridge law student
  • Professor Louise Gullifer: Chair of the Faculty of Law
  • Dr Holli Sargeant: Research Fellow, St John’s College
  • Professor Felix Steffek: Deputy Chair of the Faculty of Law

After the session, there will be drinks and an opportunity to continue the discussion informally.

To attend, please register (name and email address only).

We do not anticipate capacity problems but would cap based on time of registration if it becomes necessary.

The following sessions will be:

  • Thursday, 13 November, 4:00pm-5:30pm, LG19: ‘The Transformation of the Legal Professions’
  • Thursday, 27 November, 5:00pm-6:30pm, LG19: ‘Why Study Law in the Age of AI?’
