Wednesday, 15 October 2025 - 6.00pm
Location:
Faculty of Law, LG19 (The Arthur Goodhart Lecture Theatre)

Guest speaker: Professor Emily Jackson (LSE)

Emily is a Law professor at LSE. Her research interests are in the field of medical law, specifically reproductive rights. She served as a member of the British Medical Association Medical Ethics Committee, Deputy Chair of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority and a Judicial Appointments Commissioner.

Her influential books, including Medical Law: Text, Cases and Materials; Regulating Reproduction: Law, Technology and Autonomy; and The 14 Day Rule and Human Embryo Research, have shaped how reproductive rights are understood in both legal practice and policy.

Her talk will examine the changing global landscape of reproductive rights, focusing on recent developments in the US and the UK’s movement toward the decriminalisation of abortion.

Emily’s research explores reproductive rights and regulation, and she has served as Deputy Chair of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, a Judicial Appointments Commissioner, and a member of the British Medical Association’s Medical Ethics Committee.

This event will include a Q&A session and an opportunity to join the conversation on one of today’s most pressing and controversial legal and ethical debates.
