Launch of the Cambridge Journal of International and Comparative Law (CJICL)

On 19th and 20th of May 2012, the Cambridge Journal of International and Comparative Law (CJICL) launched its first two issues at its inaugural conference on 'Agents of Change: The Individual as a Participant in the Legal Process'.

The conference, convened by the Journal’s Founding Editors-in-Chief, Rumiana Yotova and Andrew Sanger (second year doctoral students at the Faculty), was held at the Faculty of Law and the University Centre. It attracted over 116 participants from all over the world - Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and Australia – and at all stages in their academic career: from graduate students and young academics to established professors and practitioners. HE Judge Cançado Trindade of the International Court of Justice and Professor James Crawford SC each gave a keynote address before engaging in spirited debate. Professor Philippe Sands Q.C. gave a special address and Dr Roger O’Keefe delivered a convivial dinner speech.

In addition, there were eight panels of four speakers and a chair, each of which examined the role of individuals from various international and comparative law perspectives. The conference provided the backdrop for a reunion of many Cambridge alumni and academics, including the keynote speakers and Professor Sir Elihu Lauterpacht, Dr Lorand Bartels, Dr Alex Mills, Dr Kimberley Trapp, Dr Kate Parlett, Dr Jessie Hohmann, Mr Dan Saxon, Dr Freya Baetens, Ms Zena Prodromou (LL.M. student), Dr Matthew Dyson, Professor Joshua Karton, Dr Michael Waibel, Dr Sarah Nouwen, Dr John Barker and Dr Douglas Guilfoyle.
