Faculty announces the establishment of a new research Centre for Law, Medicine and Life Sciences (LML)The Faculty of Law has announced the establishment of a new research centre: the Centre for Law, Medicine and Life Sciences (LML).

The Centre, led by Dr Kathleen Liddell (Director) and Dr Jeffrey Skopek (Deputy Director), will advance research and teaching on issues of law and ethics at the forefront of medicine and the life sciences. In addressing these challenges, LML will look beyond the boundaries of medical law as traditionally conceived, encompassing areas such as competition law, family law and intellectual property.

The Centre is generously supported by a donation from the Hatton Trust and the WYNG Foundation. Its research will complement the world-class biomedical research carried out at the University of Cambridge and the surrounding biotechnological hubs including the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Through interdisciplinary collaborations, teaching, conferences, international engagement and lecture series, LML will bridge science and law, using the centre’s extensive legal expertise to help medicine and life sciences develop in responsible and effective ways.
