Herbert Smith Freehills host second 'Cambridge in London' seminarThe second Cambridge in London seminar took place on Monday 6 July 2015, kindly hosted by Herbert Smith Freehills at their offices. This event was an opportunity for some of the Faculty's alumni and friends to meet current staff and hear presentations about the Faculty's ongoing work.

Chair of the Faculty Board Professor Richard Fentiman outlined the Faculty's recent achievements, and identified the features that make the law at Cambridge distinctive. He focused especially on the Faculty's standing as a global law school with a world-leading reputation, and highlighted the Faculty's commitment to excellence in both teaching and research.

Dr Pippa Rogerson discussed recent changes to the Law Tripos, currently undertaken by over 700 undergraduate law students each year. Pippa explained that in 2012 she chaired a working group reviewing the entire undergraduate law course in Cambridge. This led to her appointment in 2014 to the new post of Director of Tripos, making her responsible for planning and organising the teaching of the Tripos. Pippa highlighted the Faculty's commitment to holistic and constructive change, building on the Faculty's tradition of excellence, with the object of providing a legal education of the highest quality.

The seminar also included a glimpse of the innovative research carried out by the Faculty's exceptional academic staff, with a research presentation on data protection by Dr David Erdos. David discussed C-131/12 Google Spain; Google v Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD), Mario Costeja González (2014), the Court of Justice of the European Union’s long awaited "right to be forgotten" case, which examined the rights of individuals mentioned in public domain material indexed on the Google search engine.  The slides accompanying David's presentation are available to download.
