Cambridge University experienced great success at this year’s 23rd Willem C. Vis Moot International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court Competition.Cambridge University experienced great success at this year's 24th Willem C. Vis Moot International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court Competition.

The team, comprising of Luke Tattersall (Wolfson College) and Andrea Chong (Downing College) speaking on behalf of the Claimants, and Chee Ching Sik (Trinity Hall) and Azfer A. Khan (Magdalene College) on behalf of the Respondents, along with Wahdana Bilal (Trinity College) and Darren Low (Downing College) as researchers, broke through to the Quarter-Finals.

The Vis Moot is one of the world’s largest and most prestigious international moot court competitions, and is widely regarded as the private law counter-part to the Jessup Moot Court competition. This year the dispute arose out of the application of the CAM-CCBC Arbitration rules and the interpretation of the CISG, as well as the applicability of a complex series of private international legal instruments.

The Cambridge team took part in oral rounds over a six-day period and ultimately finished in the top 8 out of over 340 teams, concluding as the highest ranked team in both the United Kingdom and Europe. The team outscored traditional Vis Moot powerhouses such as Harvard, Yale, Queen Mary University and the London School of Economics.

Professor Richard Fentiman, Chair of the Faculty, commented:

"The Faculty takes considerable pride in this very significant achievement. Those who witnessed their performance were highly impressed by the legal and advocacy skills of our team whom we warmly congratulate on their success."
