The Faculty welcomes with great pleasure the news that five of the seven new judges appointed to the Court of Appeal are Cambridge University graduates.

The Queen has approved the appointment to the Court of Sir Jonathan Baker (St John’s), Sir Charles Haddon Cave (Pembroke), Sir Stephen Males (St John’s), Dame Vivien Rose (Newnham), and Dame Ingrid Simler (Sidney Sussex).

Sir Jonathan Baker was appointed as a High Court Judge in the Family Division in 2009. Sir Charles Haddon-Cave was appointed a High Court Judge in the Queen’s Bench Division in 2011. Sir Stephen Males was appointed a High Court Judge in the Queen’s Bench Division in 2012 and sat in the Commercial Court. Dame Vivien Rose was appointed a High Court Judge in the Chancery Division in 2013 and became President of the Upper Tribunal (Tax and Chancery Chamber) in 2015. Dame Ingrid Simler was appointed a High Court Judge in the Queen’s Bench Division in 2013 and became President of the Employment Appeal Tribunal in 2016.
