New Years HonoursThe Faculty and the Institute of Criminology were delighted to welcome the announcement in the New Year's Honours list published at the end of December which included several alumni.

The New Year Honours list recognises the achievements of a wide range of extraordinary people across the United Kingdom.  The following alumni were awarded honours:

Professor Madeleine Atkins CBE, Lately Chief Executive, Higher Education Funding Council for England, President of Lucy Cavendish College (Girton 1971 Law & History): Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire, for services to Higher Education

Dame Rosalyn Higgins QC, former President of the International Court of Justice (Girton 1955 Law): GBE Dame Grand Cross of the of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, for services to International Law and Justice

Professor Jonathan Robert Montgomery, Chair, Health Research Authority and Professor of Healthcare Law, University College London (Gonville & Caius 1980 Law): Kt Knight Bachelor, for services to Bioethics and Healthcare Law

Shaun Sawyer, Chief Constable, Devon and Cornwall Police (Fitzwilliam 2004 Applied Criminology and Police Management): QPM Queen's Police Medal

James Ronald Vaughan, Chief Constable, Dorset Police (Fitzwilliam 2005 Applied Criminology and Police Management): QPM Queen's Police Medal
