The Faculty is delighted to announce that Clifford Chance has become a Partner in the Faculty’s Access and Widening Participation scheme.

The scheme aims to enhance the access of the brightest students to the Faculty’s outstanding programmes of legal study and, more broadly, to the legal profession. In particular, the scheme seeks to encourage bright students, and especially those from disadvantaged or underrepresented backgrounds, to apply to Cambridge to study Law and to ensure that students from all backgrounds have the tools that are needed to make a strong application. The scheme also seeks to enhance the profile of Law as an academic subject among prospective applicants and to encourage the university-level study of Law not only at Cambridge but also more broadly.

The Faculty of Law and Clifford Chance share a commitment to ensuring that opportunities to study and practise Law at the highest level are open to individuals of ability and potential, irrespective of their social or educational background. Professor Mark Elliott

Professor Mark Elliott, Chair of the Faculty, said: "We are delighted to be partnering with Clifford Chance in this initiative. The Faculty of Law and Clifford Chance share a commitment to ensuring that opportunities to study and practise Law at the highest level are open to individuals of ability and potential, irrespective of their social or educational background. The investment in our Access and Widening Participation Programme that is made possible by the support of Partners such as Clifford Chance enables the Faculty to advance its long-standing commitment to access and widening participation, and to build on its substantial work and achievements in this area in recent years."

Clifford Chance Regional Managing Partner, Michael Bates reacted: "Access to law as a profession is unfortunately not always the level playing field we aspire for it to be - proactive interventions to create equality of opportunity are extremely important and we are delighted to be partnering with The Faculty of Law and investing in its Access and Widening Participation Programme. We've seen from our own bespoke development programmes, such as Clifford Chance ACCESS, that focused investment and resources can help break down the barriers that many students face accessing the profession, and our commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace continues to be a priority for the firm."

Clifford Chance joins the Faculty’s existing Access and Widening Participation Partners, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Hogan Lovells, and Maitland Chambers, which also supports the scheme. Full information about the Faculty’s access and outreach activities can be found in the access and outreach pages
