Quebec conference provides reflections upon the work of TRS Allan

On 16 and 17 September, Université de Sherbrooke (Quebec) hosted a conference named 'The Promise of Legality: Critical Reflections upon the Work of TRS Allan', celebrating the work of Professor Trevor Allan.

The conference was organised by Geneviève Cartier (UdeS) and Mark Walters (Queen’s University, Ontario) and included sessions entitled, on the first day, 'Allan, Dworkin, Dicey — The Three Musketeers' and 'Law, Morality, Justice and the Rule of Law' and, on the second day, 'Common Law Constitutionalism, Parliamentary Sovereignty and the Rule of Law' and 'Allan on Administrative Law and the Administrative State'.

It was a wonderful tribute from a group of leading scholars in law and philosophy from the UK, Canada, and Australia. Trevor Allan expressed his gratitude to the organisers for arranging such an enjoyable and stimulating event:

"It was a great pleasure as well as a challenge to respond to critiques of my published work from such a superb group of scholars, all of whom share my interest in legal and constitutional theory. It was a very welcome opportunity to meet old friends and acquire some new ones — academic life at its best, combining vigorous intellectual exchange and convivial company."
