The Faculties of Law of the University of the Republic, Montevideo (Universidad de la República), and the University of Cambridge have entered into an agreement for reciprocal visits by academic staff. The agreement facilitates visits of one member of academic staff from each institution to the other for one week per calendar year.

Responding to the announcement, Professor Simon Deakin, who initiated the exchange, said: "This agreement marks a significant step forward in cooperation between our two institutions and the legal cultures they represent. It will also be an invaluable opportunity for individual Faculty members wishing to expand their horizons".

Professor Mark Elliott, Chair of the Faculty of Law at Cambridge, reflected: "While the Cambridge Law Faculty has developed numerous links with partner law schools around the globe, this is the first agreement of its kind with a Latin American university. We are delighted to be able to share expertise and experiences with our new partners in the University of the Republic, and look forward to fruitful exchanges in the years to come".

Professor Cristina Mangarelli, former Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of the Republic, said: "This agreement is an opportunity for research and exchange between the Law Faculties of the University of the Republic and the University of Cambridge. We hope that this is the beginning of a long-lasting and fruitful relationship for both institutions".

Professor Gonzalo A. Lorenzo Idiarte, current Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of the Republic, said: "It is a great honour to begin this exchange with the University of Cambridge, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the world. As the University of the Republic celebrates 185 years since its foundation, our Faculty is committed to academic exchange at the highest level worldwide".

This new arrangement expands the varied and exciting range of exchange options to enrich and develop our staff at the Cambridge Law Faculty, which includes opportunities at Harvard Law School, the National University of Singapore, the University of Hong Kong, the University of Toronto, the University of Auckland/Te Wāhanga Ture o Tāmaki Makaurau, and the Max Planck Law network in Germany.
