Professor Malcolm A ClarkThe Faculty has learned with sadness of the death of Professor Malcolm A Clarke (Emeritus Fellow, St John's College) last week. Malcolm was Professor Emeritus of Commercial Contract Law. He began his academic career in Cambridge as a Research Fellow at Fitzwilliam College 1966-68, and then took up his university post in 1970 after two years teaching at the University of Singapore.

For most of his working life, Professor Clarke lectured at the University of Cambridge, and also wrote on insurance and transport law for Lloyd's. His works included Contracts of Carriage by Land and Air (Wildy), The Law of Insurance Contracts (Informa), Contracts of Carriage by Air (Informa), The Law of Liability Insurance (Informa), International Carriage of Goods by Road (Informa) and also Contractual Duties: Performance, Breach, Termination and Remedies (Sweet & Maxwell).

In addition to his academic work, Malcolm was a keen photographer who regularly recorded personalities at Faculty events and personal occasions over nearly forty years. He has kindly donated an album of his photographs to the Faculty which forms part of the Eminent Scholars Archive as a visual record of Faculty members, guests and Goodhart Visiting Professors from the late 70s to the early 2000s.

Our deepest sympathies go to Malcolm's wife Eva, and the rest of his family.

A funeral service will be at Great St. Mary's Church at 11.30am on Thursday 2 May, followed by a reception at St John's College. All are welcome. For those who are unable to attend in person, the service will also be livestreamed.
