Sinead Agnew receives CUSU awardThe Faculty is delighted to announce that Dr Sinéad Agnew was awarded Research Supervisor of the Year at the Cambridge Students Union Student-Led Teaching Awards ceremony in June.

The SLT awards exist to reward outstanding teaching and student support across Cambridge. This year marked the tenth anniversary of the awards and the SU received over 600 nominations, which is truly a testament to all the amazing work done by university staff and clearly demonstrates the gratitude felt by students.

The shortlist and winners were decided by panels of students, and the winners in each of the nine categories were announced a ceremony held at the University Centre on 13 June.

The nomination for Sinéad highlighted her dedication and commitment to her supervisees, to whom she provided academic and career guidance and support with enthusiasm, optimism and excitement. It continued:

"The combination of Sinéad’s indefatigable work ethic and her eagle-eyed attention to detail sets an inspirational standard that any other supervisor would struggle to match and that I would do well to try to emulate as an aspiring academic."

Responding to her award, Sinéad said:

"I am thrilled to have won this award. I am enormously grateful to my PhD student, James Pinder for nominating me, and to the CUSU for organising the awards scheme and hosting such an enjoyable ceremony. To win an award is a lovely surprise, but to win a student-led teaching award is very special indeed. Supervising an emerging scholar like James is a great privilege, and we are lucky to have so many outstanding research students at Cambridge".

Sinéad is the Catherine Seville Associate Professor in Law, and a fellow of Newnham College.
