During December and January, Dr Lorand Bartels was questioned by a number of Parliamentary Committees to offer expert assistance on international trade issues.
On 13 December the International Trade Committee examined the implications of the Northern Irish border on future trade policy, and considered how suggested solutions for the border interact with the UK’s obligations under World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and to what extent such solutions must be applied reciprocally at all UK borders.
On 17 January the Brexit Committee considered the Canada-EU FTA (CETA) as a model for UK-EU relations.
Finally, on 23 January Dr Bartels gave evidence to the Public Bills Committee during its ongoing consideration of the Trade Bill.
In addition to his parliamentary work, Dr Bartels was also interviewed extensively by the BBC and LBC, and appeared on the first page of Le Temp, the leading Swiss daily newspaper.
