Lorand Bartels giving evidenceThe Faculty's Professor Lorand Bartels gave evidence last week before the before the House of Commons International Trade Committee as Chair of the UK Trade and Agriculture Commission, presenting the Commission’s advice on the recently signed UK-Australia free trade agreement. This advice is required to be laid before Parliament prior to the ratification process. On 28 April, he also appeared before the House of Lords International Agreements Committee, speaking on the unrelated topic of human rights clause in free trade agreements.

Professor Bartels is Professor of International Law and a fellow of Trinity Hall, teaching international law, WTO law and EU law. He holds degrees in English literature and law from the University of New South Wales (1996) and a PhD in law from the European University Institute (2002), and was appointed MBE in the 2022 Queen's New Year Honours List for services to UK trade policy.
