At the turn of the year, Professor Lorand Bartels was appointed as one of the UK's arbitrators for disputes under the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement. This is the primary agreement governing the UK's trade relations with the EU and was concluded at the end of 2020.

Further, current Goodhart incumbent Professor Campbell McLachlan was also appointed by both the EU and the UK as one of the Chairpersons of the arbitration tribunal.

The UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement concluded between the UK and the EU sets out preferential arrangements in areas such as trade in goods and in services, digital trade, intellectual property, public procurement, aviation and road transport, energy, fisheries, social security coordination, law enforcement and judicial cooperation in criminal matters, thematic cooperation and participation in Union programmes. It is underpinned by provisions ensuring a level playing field and respect for fundamental rights.
