One Essex CourtThe Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that its longstanding Patron and supporter, leading commercial set of barristers’ chambers One Essex Court, have generously committed to a further three years’ support for the One Essex Court Scholarship for students studying the Master of Law (LLM) course. This scholarship was first established by One Essex Court in 2017 and is awarded each year to candidates intending to practise at the commercial bar who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and potential.

By continuing to provide crucial student support, One Essex Court plays an important role in helping to improve access to Law and in turn helping to diversify the commercial bar. Its continued funding for the LLM Scholarship does so by providing crucial financial support to academically excellent students who are in financial need and who wish to pursue a career at the commercial Bar.

The Faculty of Law is extremely grateful for One Essex Court’s longstanding and continued support for Law at Cambridge and for its commitment to making Law a more accessible and representative sector. The Faculty is particularly grateful for the shared vision and support of Cambridge alumni Anna Boase KC (Downing, 1996) and Maximilian Schlote (Christ’s 2005) for their championing of this support.

Chair of the Faculty, Professor Mark Elliott, said: "The Faculty of Law and One Essex Court are aligned in our aspirations to ensure that opportunities to study and practise law at the highest level are open to all outstanding students, irrespective of background or financial means. I’m therefore delighted that One Essex Court has committed to supporting this Scholarship for a further three-year period."

Reflecting on the news, Anna Boase KC said: "Improving access to the commercial Bar is something that is very important to the sector as a whole and to us as a Chambers in particular. We are therefore delighted to be providing this support."
